You still have plenty of time to throw together some of these super easy custom pillows for Christmas, for yourself or as a gift! Or you can use this idea any time, for any season, just by selecting a different pattern.
I have to admit, I did not think of this brilliant idea. I totally stole it from Tasha at Designer Trapped in a Lawyer’s Body. Her blog is full of beautiful and creative projects, most of which I would love to copy, but this one is so quick and easy I truly couldn’t resist.
You start by selecting some placemats that you like. I went with some Christmas Joy and some winter snowflakes, but the pattern doesn’t matter at all so pick whatever you want.
The only thing that matters is it has to be a two layered placemat. It has to be made from two pieces of fabric, a front and a back, sewn together.
You will also need some Fiberfill. I used this giant bag and was able to make 4 pillows with enough left over for 1 or 2 more.
Use a seamripper.
to cut the stitching on the bottom corner of the placemat.
Cut a hole at least big enough for your hand.
Then stuff it full and stitch it back together, by hand.
That’s pretty much it. It’s a super simple project that comes together very quickly.
But be sure to stop by Tasha’s original post for the full details, and even a video walkthrough. You want to make sure you have all of her tips, rather than just my abbreviated version.
I love the way these turned out, and I will definitely be making more once this season has passed.
