Are you starting to look forward to summer break? How about the kids? My son has been asking “how many more days of school?” since the end of spring break. For a while my answer was just “Ummm… a lot…” but finally I decided it would probably just be easier, (and more fun for him) if he had a countdown.
I came up with an idea that is more unique and subtle than the classic paper chain, and it turned out pretty darn cute. As an added bonus, it gave me something to do with some of the 5 billion scrapbook paper scraps I have because I refuse to throw them away. J
I found a random desk graphic online, printed it, and sort-of cut it out.
Then I cut my paper into strips of assorted sizes.
Since I was aiming for these to look like a big stack of books, I wrote the countdown numbers in the form of “titles”. I didn’t bother to get super creative, since they are all going to be thrown away. It’s what I like to call semi-lazy parenting. I mean, hey, at least I was making the countdown in the first place. J
With all the pieces cut out and labeled, I started assembling by taping the desk near the bottom of the wall.
Then I taped the books in a stack, starting with “The Last Day of School” sitting on the desk,
and counting up.
Each book was only taped on the top and slightly overlapped the book under it.
Let the countdown begin!
