I don't know if it's just me, or if it works this way for most people, but at least in my world, parties seem to usually be a last minute thing. We decide a day or two ahead of time that we will "have people over" and next thing you know you are throwing an all out party and have just enough time to clean the house and get food sorted out.
That is what has happened for this weekend. We invited some people over, then invited a few more, then suddenly realized that we have quite a few people coming. Usually a bunch of them are kids so I always try to have something fun for them to do. While browsing Pinterest this morning (too busy for Pinterest is not a thing in this house. It does not happen.) I happened upon this brilliant idea from The Gunny Sack and just had to do it!
I went to the party store and bought a bunch of small and/or squishable stuff and balloons.
Following Tonia's suggestions I used a wide mouth drink bottle,
cut off the top, and stretched the balloon over the top. (It helps to blow up the balloon first to stretch it out.)
Shove the stuff inside the balloon. (You'll notice that this balloon isn't on as far as the first one was. I had a hard time getting that first one off so I did it a bit differently after that.)
I intended to put a bunch of confetti inside too so that it would go all over when they popped, but the pointy ends on the stars kept popping my balloons so I eventually gave up on that idea. :-)
When you have everything inside, pull the balloon off the spout,
and blow it up. If you look closely, you can see the stuff inside the bottom on the balloon.
Add some ribbon and find a place to hang the balloons.
Then get the kids ready to play!
We rounded up the neighbors to use as guinea pigs:-)
We gave each kid a toothpick.
It was sharp enough to pop the balloons,
but not so sharp that they didn't have to work at it a bit.
They all had a lot of fun,
and got to keep a pile of treasures.
Sounds like a blast, right?
Pardon the pun ;-)
