I love having little ways for the kids to occupy themselves during the summer. They are pretty good at entertaining themselves, but it is still fun to have a yard full of things that make them want to hang out here.
Patrick has been working on building another pallet wood tree house at work, and one day he came home with this. I honestly don't even know what it was supposed to be but he said it didn't work for it's intended purpose and he wondered if I wanted it. (Like he even had to ask, of course I did.)
It just so happened to work perfectly as a side table for our patio,
but I had also been wanting to make a tic-tac-toe game using stones, so I painted lines on the top. I left enough table space to hold a couples of drinks or some decor on the back.
Then I measured the lines, found the 1/3 measurement, and marked where to make the cross lines.
I just free-handed the painting on this one. I wasn't looking for perfection, so it didn't matter if the lines were perfectly straight.
Like I said, I had been wanting to make something like this for awhile, so I had previously collected some relatively flat stones, in two different colors. I may have stolen them from my parents landscaping...shhh don't tell :-)
We have this tiny little brick patio in the middle of our yard.
The chairs may not be the most beautiful, but they are the most comfortable.
We actually sit here pretty often so the usable table space was important,
But it's nice to have a simple, easy game to play as well.
And of course the kids love it, though I did forget to actually take pictures of them playing. I'll have to add those later. :-)
